Guys, congratulation for the award and for the software. I tried it, very cool. But, honestly, I’m not gonna pay 30 dollars for it. If it was free, I would change cyberduck right away. You should think about that, I really doubt it can have market…

@Fabrizio I understand where you’re coming from, and it’s certainly a conscious choice I’ve made –– and will have to continue evaluating in the future.

That being said, while I’d love to distribute Flow as freeware, it’s simply not a feasible business model. Flow (and similarly, any future software Extendmac releases) cannot be the best it can be if I’m working a day-job, developing it in my spare time. The best software comes from the highest level of dedication, and the best way to do ensure that is to allow myself a proper amount of time to devote to design and development.

To put it simply: if I could feasibly work on Extendmac software all day without charging for it, I would. But as is often said –– I’ve gotta eat!

But didn’t you heard about “The Long Tail”? Do you know “37 Signals” manifesto?

So how about charging not so much (like 30 USD), but 5 or 10 USD???

I’m pretty sure, more users would buy your product for 5 or 10 USD and that would generate more money than if only a few users pay 30 USD.

Please thin about it!

Congratulations Brian, you deserve the recognition for Flow! By the way, for the record, Flow is well worth $29 – seriously, that’s like a pizza and some wings. Don’t listen to these “make is cheaper” and “make it free” naysayers.

Congrats, man! Just saw this pop up on my RSS in Mail, while using Flow to upload a few docs from a local café. Hands-down, one of the best FTP applications I’ve ever used, especially when it comes to experience; you deserve this award.

Hey Brian, I sincerely congratulate you on your award. I just downloaded Squirrel and I really don’t know why Apple gave it the award, and you as the runner up. Squirrel has so long ways to go before being usable, consistent user interface, and so on. While I can see where Squirrel will go to, its just not prime-time, unlike Flow, which I think is production-level, very polished and easy to use. Download squirrel, and see what I mean, the interface is just not consistent, at all. But what [the awards] has been passed out, has already been passed out, but I still think Flow beats Squirrel anytime, though Squirrel still seems to be excellent work, just that I don’t think “alpha” stage is good enough .

Well, congrats, and I hope you have more tricks in the hat coming!

I had never heard of this until the design awards were announced and I’m absolutely loving it! Great work on this and congrats on the design award. As a long-time RBrowser user, the only thing I miss is the ability to move a file around by drilling up/down the folder hierarchy in column view. I think making folders (and the breadcrumb markers at the bottom) spring-loaded would provide the same ability while keeping the sleek single-view interface.

Again, congratulations and I can’t wait to see what is in store for this app!

I found about about your software through Apple’s award site. I’m gonna test it, it looks great, just like Finder. You are one of those rare developers that understand the end user like to be greeted with basic, and familiar functions that feature a very shallow learning curve and you can jump right in. Your GUI design is top class.This is app is a must have for any web admin. Much better than Cyberduck anyway. Congratulations on getting the runner-up place anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what other software you produce.

Also, I like the basic structure of your website. The bar at the top of the page is very nice.

I downloaded the trail and I have to disagree, I would and will be paying the 30 bucks for this app. Think about it guys, this is cheap. Yes I know Cyberduck is free, but Flow is just awesome. I recently came from Windows, well bout 6 years ago, and you could never find something that nice for that cheap.

I rarely pay for software but very willingly shelled out $30 for Flow. Like Pixelmator, this is an indy program that needs as much support as it can get.

The only problem I have with opensource software and freeware is that I think developers really deserve gratification for the hard work they have put in. That is why I had absolutely no qualms in regards to paying the (reasonable) $30 for Flow.

It’s an excellent application, Brian. Bravo!
