Blog: What we've done, what we're doing, and what we will do.
Our blog is the place for everything relating to Extendmac; whether it be product updates, news, or tips and tricks. It may not be the most interesting blog on the planet, but we like to think that you'd rather have us build great stuff than write about plans to do so. ;]

So, it’s been a while. Way too long. I’ll be up-front about this: I’m sorry.

The backstory here is that, as you may or may not know, in addition to being the only software engineer at Extendmac, I’m also a university student. It’s definitely tough to be both a great student and run a terrific software company, but like most things, you get better with practice. I owe my sincere gratitude to those who’ve stuck by my side this year. You guys rock!

That being said, while nothing has been released from Extendmac since this past February, lots of conceptual work has been done. I don’t usually announce things in advance, but I’m going to try my very best to have Flow 1.5 shipping in September. While I do read all feature requests sent to our support address, if you want to make extra sure that your request is considered, remind me again with a comment on this post!

Lastly, I should mention that in the name of increasing transparency, we’re now on Twitter! Be sure to follow @extendmac to get the inside scoop on upcoming releases of Flow, and what we’re doing each and every day.

Thanks, again, for being awesome,
Brian Amerige.

Maybe you should hire more software engineers. Then again, it is understandably hard to find someone that befits your standards, which is inexcusably difficult to meet. We are excited about Flow 1.5. Until Flow becomes the mainstream application, (which is probably not your goal at all but it is something that should come along with your honorific philosophy)

Cheers,

Sang

@Sang

Hiring more software engineers may sound like the right solution, but in principle the same bottlenecks in the process would still exist — namely, me. Unless I’m willing to abdicate control over major design and engineering decisions, progress will hinge on my availability.

In any case, thanks for your support ;)

How about a discount sale like what binarynights is having now for Forklift ($9.95)? That would help in these times. And yes, an option to have a two pane view too, but I wouldn’t mind it not being there if the discount is good enough. :)

There are three features I would like.

  1. Permissions. The ability to set permissions one file at a time is a bit difficult. I would love to set multiple permissions at once.
  2. Merge. I’m sure this is a giant pain in the ass, but merge is a great tool
  3. Sync Favorites: Multiple laptops, same kind of work, makes setting up flow a pain.

I’m glad that you’re back. Also good to see you’re from my hometown or at least attending school at UCSD.

Cheers, Kenny

@Kenny Meyers

These features are on the to-do list, and in all likelihood, you’ll see all three of them before the end of this summer. However, I should let you know that they won’t be present in 1.2, due in a few weeks.

As for UCSD — yeah, I’m a student there, but my hometown is actually all the way in New York! :)

Hi Brian,

Quick FYI, the Twitter link appears to be wrong…..

As for Flow, I’d like to add my vote for Syncing of favorites,

Thanks

John

@Mathieu

Flow 1.2, due for release pretty soon, fully supports Snow Leopard.

Will 1.2 allow specifying a local folder in the bookmark?
