Blog: What we've done, what we're doing, and what we will do.
Our blog is the place for everything relating to Extendmac; whether it be product updates, news, or tips and tricks. It may not be the most interesting blog on the planet, but we like to think that you'd rather have us build great stuff than write about plans to do so. ;]

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Flow is part of the current MacHeist nanoBundle.

We don’t do discounts or bundles often (read: never), so you know this one’s got to be pretty fantastic. The whole bundle is only $19.95 — $5 cheaper than Flow itself — but the sale ends next Tuesday.

We’ve had the pleasure of observing people discover just how great Flow can make file transfer:

Marcus Neto:

“I am so in love with my new FTP client flow…”

Paul Conigliaro:

“Flow is one of the best FTP clients I’ve ever owned. Also bought a seat at full price a few months ago.”

Nathan Strang:

“Just fell in love with a new FTP client for Mac… Flow.”

iJonesy:

“is enjoying his new favorite FTP client for Mac he got from Macheist called Flow. So fun to use.”

Paul Rothrock:

“If you use FTP a lot then it’s worth buying the current MacHeist bundle just for Flow. It makes Transmit look like an OS 9 application.”

To the thousands who have sent us euphoric feedback: thank you! You folks are a great reminder of why we wake up and build this stuff every day.

To those who have sent us bug reports and feature requests: thank you, too. We’ll keep on polishing!

All the very best,
Brian, on behalf of the Extendmac team.

Nice ‘pickings’ of comments, Brian.

The real views by most users, however, is quite different to the rosy picture painted here:

@Anonymouse

Typically, I tend to avoid sampling feedback from forums because they’re a notoriously bad source of the general feeling. This is mostly because people rarely go out of their way to say “everything’s alright, awesome!” on a forum — there’s too much friction — and so you’ll mostly find people needing help on them. The iPhone forum on Apple’s site demonstrates this. Great product, but you wouldn’t know it looking at Apple’s product forums.

Twitter, on the other hand, has much lower friction. There’s no expectation of reply or interaction with others, and so it tends to be more representative of both the “good” feelings and “bad” feelings. In this particular example, I didn’t have to go out of my way to find these quotes — just the most recent things said about Flow and MacHeist yielded such a sampling.

In any case, we’ll continue working hard to further polish Flow and to address the issues people have reported.

Hey,

I think Flow is quite a good program, with a nice interface. However the documentation is not so extendend as I would like. Perhaps investing some more in documenting it?

Second thing: when connecting with an SFTP server, how does the copy happens? SFTP or SCP (the latter being much faster with server with high latency)?

@Giovanni

Thanks for the feedback. We hear you regarding complete documentation.

As far as SFTP: currently, copying is done over standard-SFTP. SCP / SSH is something we’re looking into for future versions of Flow.

I just kicked “cyberduck” and am using “Flow” from now on. I absolutely love it!

I just acquired a license for Flow and I have to say, Flow is a very well written program. As Brian pointed out, online forums are usually representative of a congested medium in which clarity and overall “good feeling” posts tend to be lacking.

Regardless, the MacHeist bundle is definitely an awesome deal for Flow!

I purchased a license from you guys approximately a year ago.. Why does it no longer work? Why have you guys repeatedly ignored my requests for support? Please help me out, I love the client but when I drag my license in NOTHING happens.

I’ll be kicking Transmit to the curb now that I’ve discovered “Flow.” So appropriately named because this app allows me to flow through sharing my work online and off… Great job! And to get the rest of the apps in the Mac Heist Bundle 7 for less than the cost of “Flow”… SWEET!

Great product in many ways. But one thing will keep it from being my primary ftp client: Lack of support for private keys. EVERYTHING I need to connect to requires private keys. That makes this a no-go for me. I should have done a little more research first, because one of the main things that made me convinced to buy the MacHeist bundle was I saw Flow and I thought “Oh, great, now I can have a well made SFTP/SCP Client.” Back to CyberDuck with me. :(

I think this was asked in a general way previously; any plans to support Mosso Cloud Files like in CyberDuck?

I’ll be waiting on an update before changing from Transmit, I hate to say it but Flow is very buggy. Especially on SFTP.

I’m excited to move towards using Flow more after purchasing it in the Mac Heist bundle.

Is it possible to import bookmarks outside of Cyberduck? I’ve got a LOT of bookmarks in Coda and YummyFTP that are a pain to move over.

I understand the level of complexity might be rather high, but is it possible to import FTP account data from Keychain? That’d be especially handy.

Looking forward to a better FTP work-Flow. ;)

I would love to see the SCP protocol added! I love using Flow, but our servers were recently switched to limit access via SCP. I had to switch back to Cyberduck.

Well Vick said that he and Godell were on the same page which is a good thing. I cant wait to see vick help us out in wildcat situations this year. This is going to be a special eagles season and better without donovan. Kolb will be so much better and we will sweep the deadskins, cowboys and giants twice.
